Arts and Education Engagement Manager - Australian Antarctic Division

Who we are The Australian Antarctic Division (AAD) is based near Hobart, Tasmania. The division is part of the Australian Government's Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW). As primary agency for Australia's Antarctic Program (AAP), the AAD is responsible for achieving the Australian Government's Antarctic goals. These goals are to: Maintain the Antarctic Treaty System and enhance Australia's influence within it. Protect the Antarctic environment. Understand the role of Antarctica in the global climate system. Undertake scientific work of practical, economic and national significance. The AAD also has responsibility for administering the Australian Antarctic Territory and the Territory of Heard and McDonald Islands. The Media and Communications Section aims to build understanding of Australia's science and presence in Antarctica. We do this through media engagement, content development, strategic internal communications, video production, arts and education engagement and web management. We work closely with internal and external partners, our central DCCEEW colleagues and the Minister's Office. The key duties of the position include The Job The role utilises arts and education partnerships to engage audiences in the Australian Government's Antarctic activities and priorities. Through collaboration with organisations, institutions and individuals, the role leverages arts and education to raise awareness and understanding of Australia's science and presence in Antarctica. Main activities include: Manage stakeholder relationships, partnerships and collaboration across arts, education and science to facilitate cooperation and outcomes. Develop public engagement strategies based on in-depth knowledge, organisational priorities and assessment of opportunity and risk. Provide specialist advice, plan and monitor work, use professional judgement in allocation of resources and managing issues. Collaborate internally and externally to produce communications and engagement outputs, provide specialist advice and guidance. Project manage the department's participation in public engagement events and activities. Manage the Australian Antarctic Arts Fellowship in line with organisational priorities. Manage physical resources and loan agreements, co-ordinate providers and contractors, project planning, project reporting and budget management. What we are looking for Knowledge and experience Experience of managing partnerships and collaboration in the science/arts/education sectors to engage and educate audiences. The ability to translate complex information and creative ideas into defined outputs that work to organisational objectives. Experience of project and engagement management, budget management and project reporting in line with organisational objectives and requirements. The ability to build trust and confidence of decision-makers through demonstrated accountability, risk and opportunity management and stakeholder engagement. The ability to operate effectively within a government or bureaucratic environment, including compliance with policy, process and approval requirements. Skills and capabilities A team focus, positivity and authenticity. Manage stakeholder relationships, partnerships and collaborative agreements to achieve measurable outcomes. Develop strategies and activity plans that work towards organisational priorities. Manage projects, budgets, resources and events to educate and engage audiences. Operate effectively within a complex and bureaucratic organisation. Please note that the successful applicant may be required to travel to the Antarctic and sub-Antarctic regions therefore they may be required to meet specific medical, adaptability and personal qualities requirements appropriate to working in those environments. In order to undertake travel to the Antarctic & sub-Antarctic regions they will need to: Demonstrate the range of personal qualities and interpersonal skills necessary to perform as a successful team member within isolated Antarctic and sub-Antarctic environments. Demonstrate an ability to effectively adapt and respond to the demands of living and working in an isolated and confined environment as determined by a psychological (adaptability) assessment. Be certified as fit for Antarctic service by the AAD's Polar Medicine Unit. Desirable qualifications Qualifications or equivalent experience in education/science/arts engagement or a communications-related field.
