Department for Health and Wellbeing - Strategy & Governance - Aboriginal Health Classification: SAES Level 1 - Full Time / Term Contract (Temporary up to three years) Overview: AGENCY PROFILE: The Department for Health and Wellbeing (DHW) is an administrative unit under the Public Sector Act 2009 with responsibility for setting strategic direction and statewide policy, as well as the performance of the public health system through high-level system direction and performance management. SA Health is how we describe the public health system as a whole. It includes the Department, ten Local Health Networks, and Statewide Clinical Support Services, SA Ambulance Service, SA Dental Service, Prison Health, and Drug and Alcohol Services SA. SA Health is committed to delivering a comprehensive and sustainable health system to enhance the health and wellbeing of individuals, families, and communities. Through the initiatives of the SA Health and Wellbeing Strategy 2020-2025, SA Health aims to refocus energy on maintaining good health through prevention, promotion, and early intervention plans. ROLE PROFILE: We are excited to be recruiting such an important role within the Department to lead the work on engaging Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. The Chief Aboriginal Health Officer is the chief advisor and strategic voice on Aboriginal health matters within the State. The role will advocate for effective Aboriginal health outcomes at the Commonwealth and State levels and will develop improvement initiatives for the implementation of enhanced programs in accordance with SA government requirements. We are looking for a dynamic leader, who can work across government to drive the commitment to the Closing The Gap agenda, and develop genuine partnerships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and organisations. The Chief Aboriginal Health Officer will provide effective Aboriginal leadership across SA Health and will work collaboratively with Local Health Networks and Attached Agencies to shape and strengthen system-wide Aboriginal health proposals and related programs that improve health outcomes. The role will build system intelligence that will ensure effective and improved performance, evaluation, and evidence-based outcomes that will enable SA Health to deliver national and state Aboriginal Health priorities. Special Conditions This role has a specific focus on contributing to the states priorities in achieving Closing the Gap targets and positive health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
